Happy Days in April and May!
From the Field
Colorful Tunnels!
Despite the erratic spring weather we are used to here in Montana, our tunnels always stay sunny and warm. This allows us to harvest earlier than we would otherwise with our short summer season.
Some early bloomers this year have been our Icelandic poppies, anemones, tulips, daffodils, leucojum, and grape hyacinth. It’s exciting watching the tunnels and perennial rows come to life while there is still snow in the mountains.
What’s Blooming Now
All of our tulips have been harvested and are staying fresh in our barn cooler. We’re excited to share them with our May subscription members and Mother’s Day Market.
Mother’s Day Market at the Rathvinden Flower Barn
Saturday May 9th from 10am - 1pm
We will be hosting a bouquet bar, selling Mother’s Day bouquets and dahlia tubers alongside some of our favorite local vendors. Don’t miss this great opportunity to purchase a thoughtful gift for the mother figures in your life!

What’s New
Our May Flower Subscription has begun!
If you signed up for our May flowers, then you should have already picked up your first bouquet of the season. We’re excited to finally share our spring bounty with the community. We love including budding branches and other unique perennials we have growing on the farm.
Did you know that the best way to keep woody branches from drooping is by cutting a slit UP the stem? This helps ensure the vase water reaches those woody tips. If you are a member of our subscription club and have any questions about your flowers, please do not hesitate to reach out to us! We love sharing our nerdy flower knowledge with any and all!
If you’re not yet a member, we still have some subscriptions available in our June and Mid-summer flower clubs. (links below!)
Before we know it, June will be here in all her glory! We can’t wait for lupines, PEONIES, columbine and MORE! Don’t miss out.
Garden Boxes
Have you ever wanted to grow your own bouquet but aren’t quite sure where to start? It can be daunting considering all the many floral varieties along with what works well in our tricky climate or in a vase. Luckily for you, our team has compiled a box full of flower starts guaranteed to deliver a bouquet of blooms. Each garden box comes with 32 flower starts with an easy to follow How-To guide on planting your own cutting garden. Pre-order yours today!
Volunteer Opportunities
We still have some space available for people wanting to get their hands in the dirt this summer as a volunteer on the farm. Volunteers will be useful primarily during our U-pick hours and on big weeding adventures. As always, volunteers get paid in flowers, so if this is something you’re interested in, please reply to this email with your contact information. Please note, space is limited so we won’t be able to accommodate everyone interested in volunteering.
Behind the Blooms
Spring involves a lot of physical labor on the farm.
Some days we go home with sore backs, blistered hands, and muddy toes. Thankfully, we love what we do and feel grateful to call this beautiful farm our flower home, and these beautiful people our flower team.
We got to experience all four seasons during the month of April!
Never a boring moment when flower farming in Montana!
As always, thank you for your support, flower purchases, friend referrals, and belief in our little farm and what we’re doing.
We know it would be so much easier to just till the soil, hire cheap labor, and plant easy flowers. Instead, we’re committed to doing something different. We’re committed to paying our people a living wage, building up our ecosystem by using organic and regenerative practices, and supporting our community with events and workshops. We may be small but we’re also mighty!
